Former VOIVOD Bassist To Perform In All-Star Thrash Metal Tribute Band
September 3, 2002Ex-VOIVOD bassist Jean-Yves Thériault (a.k.a. Blacky) has teamed up with former and current members of OBLIVEON, CRYPTOPSY, MARTYR and GHOULUNATICS in an all-star thrash metal tribute band called BLACK CLOUD. The five-piece group is scheduled to make its live debut on November 9th at Le Medley in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
"My first manager, Maurice Richard, contacted me and proposed that I get back on stage to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the thrash metal scene in Québec," Thériault told Voivodfan.com. "We had a few discussions and decided to put together an all-star thrash metal tribute band, BLACK CLOUD."
Consisting of Thériault on blower bass, Pierre Rémillard (ex-OBLIVEON) on guitar, Daniel Mongrain (MARTYR) on guitar, Flo Mounier (CRYPTOPSY) on drums, and Patrick Mireault (GHOULUNATICS) on vocals, BLACK CLOUD got its name from "an inside joke from my days in VOIVOD," Jean-Yves revealed. "I had a reputation for having a bad temper. So after I left the band, it was said that the 'black cloud had lifted'."
Intended mainly as a fun side project for everyone involved, BLACK CLOUD will not perform any original material at the upcoming gig and will instead restrict their set list to covers of songs previously recorded by such influential thrash metal artists as SLAYER, VENOM, MOTÖRHEAD, METALLICA, CELTIC FROST and, of course, VOIVOD.
When asked if he was nervous about the prospect of performing live again, Thériault responded: "It's not a question of being nervous, I know I can still deliver! But I am a little worried about whether there's still a public for thrash metal. What if no one shows up?"
